Thai Headline News Agency (TNA) reported on April 9 that at the headquarters of Tencent in Shenzhen, China, Thailand's trade representative Narumon met with Tencent Cloud International Vice President Jimmy Chen and Tencent executives to collaborate on the use of WeChat to promote Thai products and Thailand's soft power directly to 1.4 billion Chinese consumers.

Narumon revealed that e-commerce has grown rapidly during the pandemic as Chinese purchasing and payment habits have changed significantly. However, the e-commerce landscape has also undergone a dramatic shift, with traditional e-commerce platforms declining in popularity and being replaced by the rise of Social Commerce. Social commerce platforms allow merchants to make more money through self-built, lower-cost mini-platforms and the ability to meet buyers' needs more directly through AI technology.

Statistics reflect that the number of users and product transactions on Tencent's mini-programs exceeds many other platforms in China, said Nalemon. Today's discussion with Tencent on the use of social commerce technology will help promote Thai products and Thai soft power. At the same time, it could also create agricultural benefits, such as providing certificates of origin for Thai agricultural products.

Narumon emphasized, "The government attaches importance to using technology to develop the economy. Currently, many government programs have introduced artificial intelligence systems and cloud technology to boost the economy for the benefit of the people, as well as social commerce technology to support Thai products and Thai software, thus creating opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs. Thai farmers will be able to reach Chinese customers without having to go through middlemen, which will lead to a balance of trade between Thailand and China and even create new wealth."
