Bloomberg reported on September 25 that Baidu’s (百度) autonomous taxi unit Apollo Go (萝卜快跑) is in talks with local governments to expand into Australia and Southeast Asia. Earlier this week, Dubai granted Apollo Go 50 new testing permits, doubling its fleet to about 100 vehicles. Baidu is also negotiating potential launches in several Middle Eastern and European cities. With per-vehicle profitability already achieved in China, Apollo Go is seen as economically viable for large-scale commercialization. Leveraging China’s EV supply chain, Baidu and other Chinese autonomous driving firms enjoy cost advantages over global rivals such as Waymo.
