On October 14, Japan iron and Steel Corporation, the world's fifth largest steel enterprise and Japan's largest steel manufacturer, publicly announced that the patents related to electromagnetic steel plate held by the company had been infringed and filed a lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court, claiming about 20 billion yen (about 1.1 billion yuan) against Toyota motor and Chinese steel giant Baoshan Iron and steel respectively. On October 16, Baosteel responded that it would actively respond to the technical patent lawsuit filed by Japan iron and steel and resolutely defend the rights and interests of the company. Baosteel said in the statement that the patent recognition should be based on rigorous and scientific technical exchange and verification between the two sides. Baosteel does not agree with the unilateral claim of Japanese iron making.
