On October 29, BYD (比亚迪) released official images of its first pure-electric K-Car model “RACCO” (海獭) designed for the Japanese market, with sales set to begin in summer 2026, marking BYD’s deeper entry into Japan’s mini EV segment. The RACCO adopts Japan’s signature K-Car design—a compact, boxy body featuring four doors and sliding rear doors for urban practicality. Measuring 3,395 × 1,475 × 1,800 mm, it accommodates four passengers. Powered by a front-wheel-drive system and a 20 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, it offers a WLTC range of about 180 km and supports 100 kW fast charging. Priced around JPY 2.6 million (≈ RMB 121,000), the RACCO will directly compete with Sakura, currently Japan’s best-selling mini EV.
