Meta Platforms(Meta)has worked with Shanghai-based Fourier(傅利叶智能)to develop a humanoid robot prototype, according to an October 31 report by The Information. Meta said the collaboration is for internal research and experimentation, with no plans to sell the units.

The prototype, known internally as Max, reportedly stands about 1.5 metres tall and weighs approximately 48 kilograms. It uses an NVIDIA(英伟达)Jetson Thor chip, a screen displaying facial expressions, built-in speakers and five-fingered hands capable of handling small objects.

According to the report, Meta’s robotics team worked with Fourier in Shanghai, and the prototype was presented to employees at an internal event in August. Development of a second version began in September, with changes planned for the torso, hands and sensing capabilities.

The collaboration places a Chinese robotics company within an international technology group’s development process. For Fourier, this involves adapting robot hardware to a partner’s requirements for movement, manipulation and human interaction.

The project remains at the research stage, with no commercial launch timetable disclosed. Its significance will depend on how the collaboration develops and whether later prototypes demonstrate reliable performance in intended settings. For Chinese robotics suppliers, such partnerships offer a route into overseas development programs alongside sales of their own products.
