Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3 Joins Amazon Bedrock as Overseas Revenue-Sharing Model Takes Shape

Amazon Web Services announced on September 18 that Kimi K3, developed by China’s Moonshot AI(月之暗面), is available on Amazon Bedrock, expanding the model’s access to enterprise customers through AWS’s managed AI platform. On September 21, National Business Daily reported that Moonshot had confirmed an overseas cloud revenue-sharing arrangement, adding a commercial dimension to the launch. The financial terms remain undisclosed.

The development gives Moonshot another route to international customers alongside its own services and direct API business. Under the arrangement described by National Business Daily, cloud providers host Kimi models and share revenue with Moonshot based on usage. Earlier reports that the company sought a share of up to 30% concerned negotiations; neither party has publicly confirmed that figure as an agreed rate.

Kimi K3 is a 2.8-trillion-parameter open-weight model with native vision capabilities and a one-million-token context window. AWS positions it for coding and knowledge work involving large repositories, documents and images. Bedrock lets customers access the model through managed APIs without operating the underlying inference infrastructure themselves. AWS says customer data stays within its data boundary, is not shared with the model provider and is not used to train the underlying model.

K3 is not the first Chinese model available on Bedrock: DeepSeek-R1 became a fully managed offering in March 2025. The significance here is the reported commercial arrangement and the additional enterprise distribution channel it gives Moonshot.

The model’s license helps explain the business approach. Although its weights are available, commercial use carries conditions. A licensee or affiliate operating a model-as-a-service business must obtain a separate agreement if their aggregate revenue exceeds USD 20 million over any consecutive 12 months. The threshold covers the licensee and its affiliates, rather than K3-related revenue alone. The license also provides exemptions for internal use and access through Moonshot’s official products or certified inference partners.

For Chinese model developers, the arrangement illustrates how publishing weights can support commercial partnerships with overseas infrastructure providers. Cloud hosting can reduce the need to build a separate serving operation for every market, while giving enterprise buyers access through existing procurement and security systems.

Whether that distribution translates into substantial earnings remains unproven. Neither the revenue split nor revenue generated through Bedrock has been disclosed. The next measure of success will be sustained paid usage: availability creates access, but customers still have to choose K3 for production workloads.
