GalaxySpace Completes First Laos Satellite Internet Trial, Extending Southeast Asian Expansion

GalaxySpace(银河航天)completed its first low-Earth-orbit satellite internet trial in Laos on September 15, using its Mini-Spider(小蜘蛛网)experimental constellation to support a live high-definition audio and video call. Conducted in Vientiane at 23:14 Beijing time, the demonstration adds another overseas testing location for the Chinese satellite manufacturer as it expands cooperation in Southeast Asia.C

The trial used GalaxySpace’s self-developed lightweight T2T application demonstration system to establish the satellite connection. The company said it would deepen cooperation with Laos on satellite capabilities and services while pursuing technical and business exchanges in other markets. The announcement establishes a technical demonstration; it does not disclose a commercial service launch, customer contract or timetable for wider deployment.

The Beijing-based company develops satellites, communications payloads and satellite internet systems. By August 25, it said it had successfully launched 49 satellites of its own development, spanning communications, remote sensing and other applications. Its Mini-Spider constellation has served as a platform for testing broadband connectivity and exploring applications outside China.

Thailand provides the clearest precedent. GalaxySpace conducted a Mini-Spider broadband trial there in 2024. It subsequently expanded its cooperation into satellite delivery: on August 25, 2026, the GalaxySpace Lingzhi-09 Thailand CubeSat, also known as GISTDA Cube Sat 1, launched from Taiyuan aboard a Long March-6C rocket.

Developed for Thailand’s Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency, the CubeSat supports land, agricultural and environmental observation, alongside university teaching and practical satellite training. The package includes the spacecraft, ground systems and personnel training. It therefore represents a separate remote-sensing and capability-building project, rather than an extension of the Mini-Spider broadband network.

Together, these projects illustrate how GalaxySpace is developing overseas business through several forms of cooperation: communications trials, spacecraft delivery and technical training. For prospective partners, demonstrations offer a way to assess a system before deciding how it might fit local communications needs or space programmes.

For Chinese commercial space companies, that approach creates opportunities across manufacturing, ground infrastructure and engineering support. Turning a successful connection into a continuing service, however, requires sustained coverage, workable terminal costs, operating arrangements and the necessary authorisations. The Laos trial gives GalaxySpace another technical reference as it pursues that transition, while its Thai projects show how local cooperation can develop into a broader delivery relationship.
