A Small Aircraft, a Bigger Bet: How China's Worthy Aero Plans to Scale Up

DYU(大鱼智行), a Chinese electric-bike and smart light-mobility company, announced on September 10 that it had completed a Pre-B funding round of nearly CNY 100 million. Tongxin Capital(同鑫资本)led the round, with several other institutional investors participating. The proceeds will support product development, AI capabilities, international brand building and supply-chain improvements.

The financing follows a Series A round in 2024. DYU says it will deepen its presence in Europe, the United States and other priority markets, with greater emphasis on local operations and major retail accounts. The company reports that its products reach more than 60 countries and regions and identifies Costco, Best Buy and MediaMarkt among its retail channels.
That channel presence encompasses different sales arrangements. DYU products are listed on major retailers’ websites, including third-party marketplace listings. Such availability demonstrates access to consumers but does not, by itself, establish the scale of direct retail procurement or physical-store distribution.
Beyond e-bikes, DYU is exploring electric wagons and other outdoor mobility devices. Its proposed AI E-Wagon would add electric assistance, following capability, environmental sensing and obstacle avoidance to a conventional outdoor cart. These remain development priorities rather than evidence of established sales in a new category.
The company also plans to develop reusable electric-drive, battery, control and sensing systems that could support multiple products. Its AI work is focused on functions within devices, including movement control and assisted mobility. The intended benefit is to share engineering across categories and shorten the path from development to production.
The commercial rationale is straightforward: a broader product range could create more opportunities with retail partners, while shared components could improve development efficiency. Both depend on execution. Products must suit local demand, meet applicable requirements and arrive with reliable replenishment and after-sales support.
For DYU, the funding provides resources to pursue that expansion, but retail access is only the beginning. The more meaningful measures will be consumer purchases, repeat orders, service performance and the commercial launch of new products. Its strategy illustrates the operational work involved in building an overseas hardware business: combining product development with distribution and support that can sustain demand over time.
