Entropy Function(熵函数), a Shenzhen-based quantum-computing software startup, has completed an angel round worth tens of millions of yuan led by GSR Ventures(金沙江创投), with participation from several other investors. The company said the proceeds will fund its quantum-computing platform, hiring and services for research and industrial users.

Founded in 2023 by entrepreneur Ma Guoqiang and Chinese University of Hong Kong professor Gu Zhengcheng, Entropy Function develops quantum-computing and quantum-simulation software. Its core product, the Entropec engine, runs tensor-network algorithms on classical CPU and GPU clusters rather than dedicated quantum hardware.

According to the company, Entropec can simulate selected moderately entangled quantum systems involving thousands of qubits and circuits with fewer than 100 layers, with a relative error below 1e-5. These are company-reported performance parameters, not evidence of a general-purpose fault-tolerant quantum computer or quantum advantage across all workloads.

On August 3, Entropy Function, the Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Quantum Science Center and the National Supercomputing Center Shenzhen jointly released the Entropec quantum-computing platform. Built on the center’s Lingsheng supercomputing system, the platform is scheduled to open for commercial operation in October 2026.

The company’s strategy is to provide quantum-simulation capacity first, then connect with physical quantum hardware as it matures. That approach could give research users access to large-scale simulation before dependable quantum hardware becomes broadly available. Its commercial test, however, will be whether the platform can deliver repeatable value and paid demand in specific fields such as materials science, drug discovery and quantum algorithm development.
