1. Meituan's Food Delivery Brand Keeta Launches in Qatar, Plans to Enter Brazil in Months
【Event】On August 19 (local time in Qatar), Keeta, the international food delivery brand under Chinese tech and retail giant Meituan, officially launched in Doha, the capital of Qatar. This marks another layout of Keeta in the Middle East market following its entry into Saudi Arabia.
The Middle East market has distinct advantages for the development of the food delivery industry. Taking Qatar as an example, as one of the economies with the highest per capita GDP in the world, it boasts strong consumption capacity and significant growth potential in the food delivery market, providing a foundation for foreign platforms to expand.
Looking back at Keeta's overseas expansion journey: in May 2023, the brand was first launched in Hong Kong, kicking off its international exploration; in September 2024, it officially entered the Saudi Arabian market in the Middle East. Within less than a year, Keeta ranked among the top three food delivery platforms in Saudi Arabia in terms of market share, covering 20 local cities. After its launch in Qatar this time, Keeta plans to continue deepening its presence in the Middle East and gradually expand to more member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Meanwhile, it is preparing to enter the Brazilian market in months, further extending its business to South America.
2. JD.com Completes Acquisition of Kai Bo, Officially Enters Hong Kong
【Event】On August 15, JD.com officially announced the completion of its acquisition of Kai Bo Food Supermarket (hereinafter referred to as “Kai Bo”). The company did not disclose the exact transaction amount. However, media reports previously stated that the total deal was valued at HKD 4 billion, covering Kai Bo’s retail network, property assets, and installment payment terms.
Kai Bo was founded in 1991. The company built its brand on an affordable strategy, attracting consumers with low-priced frozen meat. At present, Kai Bo operates around 90 stores across Hong Kong, including 41 in the New Territories, 32 in Kowloon, and 17 on Hong Kong Island, employing more than 1,000 staff.
3. ChaPanda Announces Opening of First North American Store in New York
【Event】On August 16th, ChaPanda's official account announced that its first North American store is set to open in New York, U.S. The store is located on Main Street in Flushing, Queens, New York City. Since the start of this year, ChaPanda has significantly accelerated its overseas expansion. In July, it officially entered the Singapore market, opening two stores simultaneously on the first day. 【Event】At Pop Mart's 2025 interim results conference, Wen Deyi, Co-Chief Operating Officer, stated that the company will focus on markets including the Middle East, South Asia, Central and South America, and Russia. 5. BYD Enters Strategic Cooperation with Finnish Automotive Dealer Veho Group
【Event】Recently, BYD has entered into strategic cooperation with Veho Group, a well-known Finnish automotive dealer, to fully upgrade the layout of its sales and service network in Finland.
