
On April 14, during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam, Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce of China, and Nguyen Hong Yen, Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, jointly signed the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on Strengthening Industrial and Supply Chain Cooperation" ("MoU") in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.
Both sides will give full play to the role of bilateral mechanisms and encourage enterprises in the two countries to strengthen multi-field industrial and supply chain cooperation through trade, investment, technological cooperation and other means. In recent years, economic and trade cooperation between China and Vietnam has been continuously deepening, and the industrial and supply chains of the two countries have been deeply integrated. The signing of the MoU will promote the two countries to work together to build a smooth, stable and resilient industrial and supply chain between China and Vietnam, and further deepen trade and investment cooperation.
According to Xinhua News Agency, China and Vietnam issued a joint statement on April 15 titled "On Continuously Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and Accelerating the Building of a Strategic China-Vietnam Community with a Shared Future".
As early as 1910, a narrow-gauge railway, historically known as the "Yunnan-Vietnam Railway", was built between Kunming in China and Haiphong in Vietnam. The narrow-gauge railway exits China at Hekou and connects with Lao Cai in Vietnam. It is also one of China's earliest cross-border railway channels. Statistical data from Kaiyuan Train Service Section shows that in 2024, a total of 378,900 metric tons of international through traffic on the narrow-gauge railway was completed, a year-on-year increase of 23.37%.
In December 2024, Vietjet Air, a low-cost airline in Vietnam, signed a lease agreement to lease two C909 aircraft starting from 2025. Vietjet Air's official website shows that starting from April 19, the routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao will be operated by two Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) C909 (formerly known as ARJ21) aircraft. The aircraft that will operate the routes arrived in Hanoi from Chengdu on April 12.
