EqualOcean has learned that the BYD Dolphin Mini(比亚迪海豚迷你) achieved a record-breaking monthly sales volume of 2,469 units in the Brazilian market in March this year.

The compact hatchback car surpassed other models in the Dolphin series, becoming the best-selling electric vehicle in the Brazilian market for the month. The previous record was set by the BYD Dolphin in December 2023 with 2,249 units sold. In 2024, the Dolphin reclaimed the top spot in January with 1,820 units sold and maintained strong sales in February with 1,807 units.

According to EqualOcean, demand for the BYD Dolphin Mini in the Brazilian market has been exceptionally strong since pre-sales began in February 2024, with an average of one car sold per minute during peak sales periods.

The success of the Dolphin Mini can also be attributed to its competitive pricing strategy. Initially, early buyers could enjoy a discount of BRL 10,000, but the current price has returned to BRL 115,800.

Positioned as BYD's most economical model, the Dolphin Mini is equipped with a front-mounted electric motor producing 75 horsepower and 13.8 kg·m of torque, along with an automatic transmission and a 38 kWh battery pack, providing a maximum range of 280 kilometers.

In addition to BYD, Chinese automakers Chery(奇瑞) and Great Wall(长城) have also performed well in the Brazilian market. Chery's compact SUV, the Tiggo 5X(瑞虎 5X), is among the top two best-selling Chinese models in Brazil, with a total sales volume of 14,400 units, while Great Wall's Haval H6(哈弗 H6) is also highly popular in the Brazilian market.

Currently, BYD has only released the four-seater version of the Dolphin Mini in the Brazilian market, with plans to introduce a five-seater Dolphin Mini model later this year. Additionally, Dolphin series models will be produced at the Camacari plant acquired from Ford by the company in 2023.
