Following the faddish foldable craze, Vivo officially launched its first folding screen Vivo X Fold, along with Vivo X Note and Vivo Pad

Vivo2020 Developer Conference

Vivo introduced its Vivo X Fold on April 11, the first foldable smartphone from the Chinese OEM. The product targets premium users, offering an array of unique features.

Vivo X Fold has a starting price of CNY 8999 (about USD 1,413) for its 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model, and the 512GB version will cost CNY 9999 (about USD 1,570).

The phone maker provides ultra-thin glass on the folding screen for protection. According to Android Authority, Vivo touts that the phone's screen can withstand 300,000 folds, which appears to be a significant improvement over the 200,000 folds Samsung claimed for its most recent products.

Besides its folding capabilities, the Vivo foldable is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship SoC, a 4,600mAh battery, 66W wired charging (100% battery in 37 minutes), and 50W wireless top-ups.

Vivo's approach seems similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series, with a large 8.03-inch folding screen inside for tablet-style use and a more traditional phone-sized screen outside - 6.53 inches in this case.

Part of BBK's supply chain empire, Vivo shares ownership with Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme. Oppo last year disclosed its first folding phone, the Find N, a high-end device with a slightly smaller screen than the Vivo X Fold.

Vivo's product launch also included X Note, whose features comprise a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, IP68 rating, an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor with a large scanning area, a mute slider, cross-device support with PCs, OriginOS, and 8.37mm thickness.

Another launch, the Vivo Pad, offers a Snapdragon 870 chipset, 8,040mAh battery with 44W charging, and an 11-inch 120Hz 2,560 x 1,600 display, equipped with a front-facing 3D ToF camera for secure face unlock.

The Vivo X Note starts at CNY 5,999 (about USD 942) for the base 8GB/256GB model, while the Vivo Pad begins at CNY 2,499 (about USD 392) for the entry-level 8GB/128GB option.
