The world's largest chip manufacturer is accelerating its global expansion.

TSMC

On June 2, 2021, TSMC's Arizona wafer factory started construction, with a total investment of USD 12 billion. As early as May 2020, TSMC announced a new 300 mm wafer plant in Phoenix. It is due to start installation and trial production in 2023 and to be put into operation in the first half of 2024. The plant will directly produce cutting-edge 5nm technology, with an estimated monthly capacity of 20,000 wafers.

In addition, the United States recently launched a semiconductor support program to further support the global semiconductor industry with an upper bound of USD 54 billion. At present, the top chip manufacturers, such as TSMC, Intel and Samsung, all have expressed their intent to work on this project. The policy may promote the further expansion of TSMC's factories in the US.

According to people familiar with the matter, the company's investment will reach USD 30 billion this year and USD 100 billion in the next three years, providing a good opportunity for the company to move towards global expansion.
