On December 9-11, 2020, EqualOcean will host this year's World Innovators Meet (WIM). WIM2020 will take on a bolder stance and adopt a more global outlook by taking the form of an online conference that will be streamed simultaneously in all countries and regions that champion the realm of technology and innovation.

During the World Innovators Meet, the WIM Committee will release the annual blockbuster WIA list, the World Innovation Awards, based on our annual industry and investment research findings, together with a series of research reports.

We are delighted to announce Niklas Östberg, co-founder and CEO of Delivery Hero, a multinational online food-delivery service based in Berlin, as one of our confirmed speakers at World Innovators Meet 2020. His keynote topic will address ‘5 trends of delivery in 2021’.

Prior to his entrepreneurial journey, Niklas studied at the Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm & ETH Zurich, where he obtained his Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering & Management.  As an entrepreneur and businessperson, Niklas is the Managing Director at RGP Local Holding IV GmbH and a board member of triage NV and Hungry Holdings Ltd.  From 2005, Niklas worked five years as a corporate consultant for Oliver Wyman before co-founding OnlinePizza.se. In 2011, he founded Delivery Hero, one of the world’s leading online food ordering and delivery marketplaces, with over 600,000 restaurant partners and 25,000+ employees globally. To date, the food delivery company is active in over 40 countries around the globe, delivering food from local suppliers to customers, and is considered as the one of the biggest Delivery Company outside China.

In 2017, the company went public and has since replaced Wirecard in Germany's blue-chip DAX. Delivery Hero’s share price has also quadrupled as market capitalization currently stands at roughly €20 billion – "Going public and listing our shares on the stock market will further enable us to develop the company and provide us with additional capital to expand our leadership position in the online food ordering and delivery market," claimed Niklas Östberg back in 2017.

Delivery Hero pocketed almost €1 billion from sales and investment in markets in the Middle East and North Africa, two regions that were responsible for half of the company’s overall revenues in 2019. Nonetheless, the delivery platform also has a strong foothold in Asia, while in Europe it is almost exclusively active mainly in Eastern and Northern European nations; Niklas argues that Western European countries are not “promising enough in terms of growth potential.”

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Delivery Hero’s orders doubled in June, generating revenues between €2.6 billion and €2.8 billion, helping the firm boost its share price following an initial slump right after the onset of the pandemic. According to Delivery Hero’s financial report, the company’s revenue increased by 92% year-on-year during the global pandemic.

“The pandemic has led to quick recovery and acceleration of our service offering, responding to changing customer behavior and larger demand for online delivery,” Niklas said.

Delivery Hero aims to continuously improve the food delivery platform. Niklas predicts a future in which ordering food will be much cheaper and healthier, and more convenient than cooking by oneself. He is also optimistic of using virtual reality to improve customer experience.

Don’t miss the chance to meet Niklas Östberg as one of our guest speakers at World Innovators Meet 2020 (9th December), where he is going to share the key trends to delivery for the upcoming year while giving insights into the business strategies of Delivery Hero.
