BiliBili's Active Anchors Increased by 88% YoY

BiliBili's financial report indicated that the company was influenced by the outbreak of COVID-19 in the first quarter of 2022. However, its growth in active users and active anchors implies its high potential to grow fast. Its release in new gaming could also benefit to the company's growth.

On June 9, 2022, BiliBili (BILI) released its financial report for Q1 2022. The reported quarter ended on March 31, 2022. The company achieved a revenue of CNY 5.05 billion, up 29.5%v compared with CNY 3.9 billion in the same period last year. The market expectation was 5.06 billion, which was roughly the same as the actual gain. The net loss was CNY 2.282 billion, up 152.43% compared with CNY 904 million in the same period last year. Its adjusted net loss was CNY 1.66 billion, up 86% compared with CNY 891 million in Q1 2021.

 In this reported quarter, the average monthly active users (MAU) reached 294 million, up 31% year-over-year. The mobile monthly active users reached 276 million, up 33% compared with the same period in 2021. The average daily active users (DAU) reached 79.4 million, an increase of 32% year-over-year compared with the same period in 2021.

 In the revenue stream, the revenue of advertising was CNY 1.04 billion, up 46% year-over-year. This also marks the fastest growth in the business sector in BiliBili. Gaming, beauty and skincare, 3C digital, automotive, and food and beverage are ranked as the top five advertising industries. The number of active anchors increased by 88% year-over-year. The average monthly paying users for the live broadcast was up 60% year-over-year. These increases benefited from the spread of live broadcasts and its updated membership service.

The game and e-commerce business grew relatively slowly in this reported quarter. The revenue of this sector increased by 16% year-over-year. It was CNY 1.36 billion. And BiliBili is planning to update 3 new game versions in June, and will also launch 3 new games in the oversea market. The update and release of new games might contribute more to the revenue of this sector for the next quarter.
