NIO, a Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, has announced on April 18 that  its number of 900 battery swap stations in China’s mainland has reached over 900, providing more than 8 million battery swap services.

With 900 battery swap stations in 31 provinces, NIO has covered 59.40% of its users who live within a three-kilometer radius of each station.

Besides, the company said the second generation of battery swap station will be able to change batteries in less than 3 minutes.

By the end of 2022, NIO will build around 1,300 battery swap stations and more than 6,000 super-chargers in China.

As early as in 2019, NIO stated that new and existing first-time owners of its flagship SUV models ES8 and ES6 will enjoy free battery swap services throughout their lifetime, in addition to free lifelong quality warranty for their cars.

NIO is not the only company that provides battery swap service. Other major players include Aulton New Energy (Chinese: 奥动新能源), BAIC Blue Park (Chinese: 北汽蓝谷), and Botan Technology (Chinese: 伯坦科技)

Moreover, the electric vehicle wireless charge industry is emerging, counting among its ranks main players such as Wipower (Chinese: 威泊) and Zongmu Tech (Chinese: 纵目科技).
