The public health agency of Canada (PHAC) issued a statement on the evening of May 19 local time that Quebec has confirmed two cases of monkeypox, which is the first such cases confirmed by the Canadian government. The public health department said it had reminded public health authorities across the country to pay attention to patients with related symptoms, regardless of their recent travel history. Earlier in the day, public health officials in Montreal announced that 17 suspected monkeypox cases had been found in the greater MONTRELl region. It is unclear whether the two cases confirmed by the public health department are among the 17 cases.
